We should not end this walk

in this world

only slightly charred

at the easy edges of unspent devotion

Summer Solace

It has been a bit of a frustrating couple of months for a few different reasons but in particular relating to my attempts to email my daily reflections. We haven’t had more than two days in a row during that time without service interruption with our internet connection. Continue reading

Small Honor

Extending the Pasture

We work along the eastern edge, cutting back the branches and bushes that have pushed out into the field. With one horse and good rains, this small pasture would be large enough. But in the strange dry and chill of … Continue reading

Autumn Snapshot

I cap the bottle and set it under the window, turn back to my work, giving silent praise for God’s good beauty that brings us rest and refreshing, even in the midst of our labors.

Making It Better

One of the great perils of remodeling is tearing out something that you think is in bad shape; you may very well find something in even worse shape behind, over or under whatever it was that you first tore out. … Continue reading

Moving in the Right Direction

Over the years and the four major whole house renovations that we’ve done together, Randa and I have used different approaches for deciding what particular project to do first. Sometimes, it’s a matter of semi-necessity; having a functioning bathroom will … Continue reading
